James Galea Jr won the the 7th Trap Selection Shoot which was the last of the season.

Joining Galea on the podium were Nico Sciberras and Ryan Bugeja who placed in second and in the third place respectively.

This Competition was held at the Malta National Shooting Ranges and the participants shot at 125 targets over the period of 2 days.

Nicholas Carabott won the Trap Competition 50+Final which was held at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club.

Ryan Bugeja finished in second place, while Emmanuel Bugeja had to settle for third place overall.

The participants in this Trap Competition shot at 50 qualifying targets plus a final round of 25 targets from a single shot.

The eight finalists were: BUGEJA Emmanuel who hit two perfect straights scoring 50/50, BUGEJA Ryan 47/50, GALEA Brian with the score of 46/50, CAMILLERI Philip hit 44/50, CARABOTT Nicholas 44/50, CASSAR Abiel 43/50 while CINI Ryan and DEGUARA Rennie qualified with the score of 40/50.

JAMES GALEA WINS THE MSSF TRAP COMPETITION 50+50+25 (T4)

James Galea Jr was the overall winner of the fourth stage of the MSSF Trap Competition 50+50+25 (T4).

Nico Sciberras finished in second, and Emanuel Bugeja ended his competition in third place overall.

This competition was characterised by challenging conditions due to the high temperatures, where James Galea Jr shot a creditable score of 117/125 achieving the MSSF minimum qualifying score (MQS), Nico Sciberras 114/125, and Emmanuel Bugeja 111/125.

At the start of this competition, all participants shot at 50 targets and the 12 athletes with the best scores advanced to compete on another 50 targets and the rest of the shooters were eliminated. 

After 100 targets the top 6 athletes shot at another 25 targets.

The next Trap competition is the QCSC Competition (2) which will be held on 6 September 2026 at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club.

Gianluca Chetcuti finished fourth in the Trap Men’s Final at the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto on Wednesday, 26 August.

120/125 in Qualifying and competing against seven other finalists, Chetcuti hit 17 of 20 targets before his elimination in fourth place. He was level with Italy’s Buccolieri at that stage, but the equal points between the two —decided on bib number — went the Italian’s way, leaving  Chetcuti to finish fourth, one place short of the podium.

Gold went to Spain’s Andrés García García, who beat Greece’s Chatzitsakiroglou in a shoot-off after the pair tied on 28. Buccolieri took bronze with 21.

William Chetcuti narrowly missed a place in the final, finishing just short of the cut in qualification with a 117/125.

The result caps a strong campaign for Gianluca Chetcuti, who came through qualification to reach the eight-man final

Nicholas Carabott won the President’s Cup 2026 Edition which was held at the Malta National Shooting Ranges.

Ryan Bugeja finished in second, while Nico Sciberras finished in third place overall.

This Trap competition was organised on 75 targets, followed by an ISSF final round of 30 targets from a single shot.

GIANLUCA CHETCUTI WINS THE SANTA MARIJA GRAND PRIX AND SETS A NATIONAL RECORD

Gianluca Chetcuti won the Santa Marija Grand Prix and set a national record by a hitting a total of 30/30 clays under the new International Shooting Sport Federation Finals format. 

William Chetcuti finished in second, while Emmanuel Bugeja finished in third place overall.

This Trap event was held at the Southern Shooting Club over 2 days where 27 Athletes battled both a challenging target field and extreme summer temperatures, while shooting at a total of 125 qualifying targets each. The field demonstrated a high level of competition that delivered standout scores.

The best Shooter in Day 1 and in Day 2 was GALEA Brian with 73/75 on the first day and 48/50 on the second day.

ATTARD Nazzareno topped the Veterans Category, while CASSAR Abiel was declared as the best Junior Athlete of this event.

The next Trap competition will be the President’s Cup which will be held on the 23 August 2026 at Malta National Shooting Ranges.

Team Malta at the European U23 Shotgun Championships – Wrocław, Poland

Nico Sciberras won the Silver Medal in the Trap Men Solo event at the European U23 Shotgun Championships, organised by the European Shooting Confederation in Wrocław, Poland.

This marked the second time that Nico has won a medal at a Continental Championship.

Sciberras progressed through three elimination phases and a semi-final before facing Egemen Agca of Türkiye in the final stage. Nico delivered another strong performance to secure an excellent Silver Medal for Malta. 

Apart from Sciberras, Team Malta was represented by Abiel Cassar, who progressed to the second phase, and Shazen Grech, who gained valuable international experience during the first elimination phase.

The Malta Trap Team also competed in the Trap event held on 8 and 9 August, where Nico Sciberras produced another outstanding performance, hitting 117/125 clays to comfortably qualify for the final with Bib No. 3.

In the final stages, Nico finished 7th overall from a field of 40 athletes, following a score of 6/10 targets in the first phase. Egemen Agca of Türkiye claimed the Gold Medal with 29/30 clays, followed by Timotej Toth of Slovenia with Silver on 25/30, while Grigoriou Giorgos of Cyprus secured Bronze with 18/25.

The other Maltese athletes also produced encouraging performances. Shazen Grech scored 104/125, while Abiel Cassar finished with 100/125. Leetov Bonnici, competing for Ranking Points (RPO), enjoyed a positive first overseas experience with a score of 106/125, while Luke Cassar, also competing for Ranking Points (RPO), recorded 98/125.

Leading the Maltese contingent in the Skeet Men category was Andre Cassar, who produced a commendable 117/125, missing the shoot-off for a place in the final by just one clay. He finished an impressive 12th overall among 46 international competitors.

Malta's athletes were supported by an experienced team, with Bruno Gubellini serving as Skeet Team Coach, while John Mary Bugeja undertook official duties in the Trap discipline. MSSF President Mr Sinclair Cassar served as Head of Delegation and also participated in various high-level meetings and ceremonial duties throughout the event.

Team Malta now looks ahead to its next international commitment, the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, scheduled from 21 August to 3 September 2026.

Emmanuel Bugeja won the All Malta 2026 edition. This event was also the 6th Trap Selection Shoot of the season.

Joining Bugeja on the podium were Ryan Bugeja and Gianluca Chetcuti who placed in second and in the third place respectively.

This Competition was held at the Malta National Shooting Ranges and the participants shot at 125 targets over the period of 2 days.

It was a top-level Competition where a total of 10 perfect straights of 25/25 were registered between 8 athletes as Ryan Buġeja, James Galea Jr, Brian Galea, Nico Sciberras, Nicholas Carabott u Christopher Vella shot a straight of 25/25 each, while Gianluca Chetcuti and Luke Cassar shot 2 straights each on the 2 nd day by hitting 50/50 Clay targets.
